Another self-centred thread from yours truly.
I'd be fascinated to know how you all pronounce my (current) name, Woori-Mei. How does it sound in your head when you read it?

That's interesting. Probably something I'd think if I didn't know. The May part is correct, so you get one point for that The first part though is pronounced Oo-Ree. directly from the Korean characters 우리. That W is silent. Not obvious to anyone outside of Korea. I think whenever they romanise names they often put a consonant at the start when they start with a vowel sound. As you know I'm not Korean, so this really feels like cultural appropriation having this name now. I have a good idea for the replacement, but have not settled on it yet.

Though in Korea it would be pronounced Oo-ri, I can never ignore that W at the start so I always pronounce it Woo-ri. In this case it is my name so I get to decide I guess.

Didnt you say you were thinking of changing it? I am, I just need to settle on one that I'm sure of. Don't want to keep changing it. I do know it won't be the name I would've been called had I born a cis girl - Davina. Ugh! Don't like that name one bit.

No it makes sense As we all know each other quite well now but have never spoken other than through text, none of us have ever heard how it *should* be pronounced. That hadn't occurred to me! I will try to get used to pronouncing it correctly in my head (until you change it, if you do, that is!)

I'm not gonna lie to you Woori, one thing that was a plus of you being trans is that you get to pick your name because Davina kinda sucks.
