As many of you will know I have been struggling with my mental health recently. That is still ongoing and I won't discuss that here for all to see. However poor mental health, and in my case, depression affects many people, therefore I thought a thread might be helpful to cover that specific condition. Even if you don't have depression yourself, you might know a loved one that does, so watching these might be helpful.
My intent is for this to be educational and may be nothing more than posting some videos I've seen on YouTube. All of these videos state that they are for educational purposes only, and that if you think that you could have depression, then you should seek professional medical help.
I'll just start of with this, and post a couple more for now.

Thanks for sharing these My ex used to suffer from depression very badly, so I know what a horrible condition it is. As that was a few years ago though I'll still give the videos a watch. Always good to have a refresher on these things, plus I know that it's entirely possible that some of the things that were considered helpful back when I was helping (I hope!) her would now be considered not ideal, as things can move very fast in these fields!

I changed the title of this thread to broaden the topic.
I saw these videos on Avoidant Personality Disorder (AVPD) the other day and wanted to share. I suspect I have this myself, as I have many of the symptoms described in these videos. It's not as widely known as some other mental health disorders so I'm hoping linking these here will ever so slightly improve that.
They are quite short, the first is 5.5 minutes the other lasts under 4 minutes. Please watch if you have the time.
Thanks,
Sandi

These are useful. My wife had some depression mixed with PTSD from her time in the military/Iraq war. It can be more dangerous than a physical injury if not treated.

This was shared with me recently, and thought it fitted very well on this thread. Thought it might be useful to post here, if nothing else so that you in turn can share with others.
It describes the effect depression has on you via the metaphor of having a black dog that follows you around.

I'll check it out when I have a little more time! Might help me understand my wife better!
