I'll go into all the reasons for the choices elsewhere, but I know what my new name will sound like. I just need to finalise how it's written. It's ... wait for it ... Sandy Mae or Sandy-Mae or Sandi Mae or Sandi-Mae or Sandie Mae or Sandie-Mae
Sandy was the name that came up on that baby name generator last night. As I've already said that was the first name I seriously came up with too. It seems written in the stars. I think I favour using the "i" or "ie" rather than "y". Sandy can also be used as a boy's name (YUCK!) but Sandi/e isn't. I'm also unsure whether to keep it as one whole name, or as two but always use both together. Your opinions please. Please don't say that's it's my name so pick whichever I like the most. If I knew for sure then I wouldn't be asking. I'm asking to see what your impressions are to help me decide. I also think it would be nice for you as friends to contribute to my new name, if only a little.

I like it I had the same thought about the version that ends with a "y" haha. If it was me, I'd go with the "ie" ending - ending on just an "i" looks a bit unfinished to me. But that's quite possibly just me being weird lol. I think if your intention is for both to always be used together, put in the dash. Otherwise it might look a bit like Mae is a middle name, rather than an integral part of your first name

Thanks for that Maria. That's very useful.
Asthetically he "y" ending is OK if it's the only part of the name, it doesn't look good in combination, with or without the dash.
Your point about the dash is well made. It isn't a middle name. Having no dash implies that just Sandi/e is the full first name.

I've never been a fan of dashed names. It doesn't need a dash to be pronounced. You decide what your name is with or without the dash. I'd say Sandi Mae if it were me.

As you've been debating spellings, I saw this and thought of you!
