So I am going to go a little bit political here and perhaps that is a bad idea but some of the stuff that has been happening has left me a little bit flustered. There has been a wave of anti-trans hate and bills targeting the trans community in several states. Several states are passing laws that basically make it illegal to be a trans kid (disallowing the use of hormone blockers and not allowing people to start transition until they reach a certain age), and now a new law in Tennessee which would require businesses to put a giant sign on their door that says "WARNING" that would inform people that trans people can use their bathrooms. These are just some of the several anti-trans bills in state legislatures.
What frustrates me the most about this is that it is all political posturing. It is one party wanting to point to the other and say "this is what they want America to be!". It would be one thing if they had genuine concern for the health of trans kids, wanting to make sure they reached a certain age before they made a major decision. But they do not give a shit about that. It is all "Do you want a man in a dress in the bathroom with your wife and daughter?". And this is what sickens me. They're playing a political game, and it has consequences for some of the most vulnerable children (CHILDREN) in our society. They're villifying trans people as wrong, perverted, bad, ugly, crazy....and you know it has an impact on the brains of trans kids. People in this forum should know that more than anyone. Being a kid who doesn't feel at home in his or her own body is normal even for the most well adjusted kids......now picture being one that isn't even in the body that corresponds with their gender, trying to figure out what they are, and having a large chunk of society telling you that everything you feel about yourself is bad and wrong and should be illegal.
UGH!! It makes me so mad! I just want to give every little trans kid out there a hug and tell them its going to be OK!
I have recently donate to the Transgender Law Center. If you have the means and want to do something to help, this might be something you could do as well. transgenderlawcenter.org/donate
Alright, I'll hop off my soap box now and get back to talking about dresses and leggings haha. Let me know if you have any opinions on this and want to talk. I still struggle a bit with the sports stuff if I am being honest. I would love to have a discussion about that!
