In my early days here, in the dim and distant past of a month ago, I used Mei of Overwatch as my visualisation of my female side. I won't go into why I did, and how that all changed later. I'd only be repeating myself. At that time I thought it would be nice to have to have something small to always carry with me when I'm out, and also a physical image of her in my room. My thinking was that whenever I'm out, no matter the attire I'm wearing, I would always have something on me that affirms my inner self. Equally whenever I'm in my room I can always look up and see an image that gives me that same affirmation.
I ordered a key chain and a poster to fulfill those purposes. I also got a new picture frame to put the poster in. Both the keychain and the frame soon arrived. The poster however took almost four weeks to get here. While waiting the pleasant feeling I had while ordering it evaporated as my impatience grew. Anyway, I put in its frame this evening, literally spilling blood to do so. I cut myself on one of the clips
Here's the keychain. One of the nice things about it is that the design is just a snowflake, Even if someone did recognise it they'd only think I've played Overwatch. For those that know their Dragon Quest, I have put this on the same chain as a replica of the Ultimate Key from Dragon Quest VIII.
Here's a photo of the picture its frame. It's quite large for a free standing picture, but not that big for a poster. It's A3 size - 29.7 x 42 cm or 11.7 x 16.5 inches. Now that it's here in my room I think it makes a very nice addition to my decor. It does indeed give me that affirmation that I was looking for. I have loads of figures of girls from video games in my room, so this poster fits in very well with those. At worse all anyone else would see is a picture of a pretty woman that I might have a silly crush on.
I was never that particularly attached to, or enamoured with the character Mei before coming here. I liked her but she wasn't meaningful to me in any way. However there is now a little personal connection between her and myself. If nothing else she symbolises that early part of my journey of self-discovery, and have kept her name to also recognise that.
Do any of you have anything that fulfills a similar purpose?
