England is absolutely rolling. I have a hard time seeing them losing at home in the final. But things like that seem to happen to them. Having seen both France and Germany play, though they'd of course have a chance, England would still be clear favourites given their current form. Pressure can do funny things to teams though, and big game nerves might play a part. I think a big difference between this side and other England teams is their coach, she is such a clear step up from others who've done that job recently.

Hi jess,
Thank you for your french sentence. You know what we say in France about soccer: « tout le monde joue au football, mais à la fin c’est l’allemagne qui gagne » I let you translate it 😉 chloé

If I recall from my high school French classes, that sentence reads something like "The entire world plays soccer, but at the end its the Germans who win." Am I close?

I guess I learned more from French class than I thought!

Never underestimate a girl, you are better than you thought. I’m happy I was allowed to write some french here, it’s definitely easier for me. When you write very long text, it takes me a long time, not to understand but to be sure I understood exactly what you meant. That’s why I have difficulties to participate in some discussion and sometimes I don’t. But I like seing you sharing so many things.
with love, Chloé

The final is only a few hours away now. Can't say I get particularly nervous or excited in the build-up to matches. I've learnt to put sporting success in perspective over the years. Once the match starts of course I do get excited when England score, and dejected when the opposition do. Unlike a lot of England supporters, I don't expect the worse to happen just because "that always happens to England" or "England always let you down". That is just confirmation bias.
I am confident of an England win. We have a great squad of players who've been playing really well, and a coach who knows how to get the best out of them, and who plans for every eventuality. It isn't a certainty as Germany are a very good side too. Also you just never know how big game nerves will affect players.
As well as two of the starting eleven having the same birthday as me, one of them is from my hometown. Her name's Fran Kirby, and as you might think we have a similar accent, so if you're wondering the type of voice I'd rather have, listen to one of her interviews.

I think most of the history of England always letting you down is from the men. The women need to forge their own path. These are two great teams but England have the massive home field advantage giving them the edge in my opinion.
As for my French. I took French classes for six years. I started my high school level classes in middle school, and took two years of college level classes in high school. It got to the point where I had to read short novels in French and write a book report on them in French. I should actually be better than I am.

I might actually tune in for the final today to see how we do. But then I feel a little like a glory hunter as I haven't followed the competition at all up to this point lol.
I did French at school at GCSE level (the exams that you take when you're 15/16). I always really struggled with languages though, and especially not having used it in the many years since, I remember pretty much nothing.

We won 😃 And my apologies once again to poor Lily who had to suffer through me messaging her in complete confusion throughout the entire game 😂

There were some texts discussing how well the team in red were doing. England were in white, Germany in green.

I don't think it's properly sunk in. I didn't celebrate at the end, I was just relieved. I think I needed someone here to celebrate with.
So proud of all the players and backroom staff. They were the best team in the tournament, and I am so pleased for them. Really glad it didn't go to penalties, which was how it was looking.

England has their shirt popping Brandi Chastain moment. I hope it does as much for female athletes and female sports in England as Brandi's did for women in the US!
As a coach of both male and female athletes, that moment was huge for me too!

Our player that did that celebration was deliberately echoing the one you mention. I think it will have a similar impact on female sports here. You could tell it already had a big impact even before the win, but the victory has taken it to whole other level. Nothing succeeds like success as they say.
The players are so down-to-earth and relatable. Most girls will see themselves in them, and think they could do the same, if not winning the Euros then becoming a professional athlete in football or another sport.
