I've been watching the Women's Euros. That's football/soccer for those that don't know.
England have been doing very well, they're already through as group winners after only 2 games. In their last game they beat Norway 8-0 a tournament record. The England team have two first team regulars that share the same birthday as me, and those two scored 5 goals between them in that match.
Of the other teams boths Germany and France are looking impressive. I think this forum will be wanting an England-France final, which'll be possible if France win their group as expected.

Netherlands reached the final of the most recent Women's World Cup (before losing to......the USA.....). So they're pretty tough too. Sweden has also been a very tough women's side historically in addition to the sides you mentioned. England and Sweden were the other semifinalists in 2019, with England losing a tight one to the US. Alex Morgan, my girl who was my avatar for a long time on this forum, got into a little hot water (no pun intended) when she simulated drinking a cup of tea after scoring against England. Norway also has a strong women's soccer history. The US have been the dominant women's soccer side. We've won the last two world cups (I went to the one in 2015 in Canada) and have won four of eight overall, while never finishing lower than third. The North American equivelent of the Euros is also happening right now and the US has reached the semifinals without allowing a goal. That has qualified us for the World Cup in 2023 already. I would expect the US and Canada will win tonight and play each other in the final this weekend. They are by far the best two squads in NA. But anything is possible. Fun to chat about. Most of my friends don't care about the womens game, so I have no one to chat with usually!

Hi,
I don’t like soccer, but amen soccer, it is money. But I admit that women soccer is quite interesting. The game is appealing less physical and more fluid according my feelings but I clearly prefer rugby. Jess, what do you think of french team, it seems a quite good team as I understood. Actually it’s the european championship, I try to follow a little bit.

I was very surprised by the Norway result as they are normally a good side, but they had an absolute shocker against England. There was a clear tactical issue that the coach didn't change until half-time when it was already 6-0. I'm not getting too carried away as there's still two big games to win to reach the final.
I've watched Sweden and Netherlands in this tournament and neither of them impressed me that much. These are the group matches though and they aren't always an indicator for the knockout stages where games will be tighter and can go to penalties.

The US is playing Canada tonight for the North American championship and a spot in the Olympics. This match up was inevitable as both teams are so much better than everyone else in the region. They are both undefeated and unscored upon.
I havn't followed the Euros as closely, but England are looking very, very good. They are probably the favorites playing at home. France has looked very good too! Germany, Sweden and the Nethlerlands being up there too......more or less the usual suspects haha.

Hope the final goes your way tonight. Of course by the time you read this the match will have happened.
England are looking very good, but it is difficult to judge just how well they are playing because of the quality of the opposition. Norway got their tactics wrong against us, and Northern Ireland just don't have the same level of fitness as England. However you don't thump teams 8-0 and 5-0 if you're playing badly.
I agree with your assessment of the other teams. All of those have looked like genuine contenders to be champions. Two of those meet in the quarter-finals, France and the Netherlands, so that should be quite a match.
We've got Spain next, and then Sweden or Belgium if we win. I've watched the Spain matches and though they keep possession really well, they lack a cutting edge upfront, and look like they want to score the perfect goal. I don't rate Belgium's chances, they've done very well to reach the quarter-finals for the first time, but Sweden are ranked #2 in the world, and will have too much for Belgium to deal with.

US won, 1-0 on a penalty. They got through the tournament without allowing a goal for the third time in a row.
Euro quarterfinals should be very interesting and I will definitely keep my eye on them!

England beat Spain 2-1 in extra time, coming from 1-0 down late on. Going out in the quarter-finals after such a good performance at the group stage would've been so disappointing. Really pleased that they won coming from behind, shows good character from the team..

We might not be able to have such a pleasant chat about soccer come wintertime!

The quarter-finals are over, and all the group winners went through, so the England-France final is still on. All the games were close, Belgium gave Sweden a better game than I thought.
I'm currently listening to the cricket - England's men playing South Africa's. South Africa have a player batting right now whose surname is De Cock. The commentators are saying his name a lot, and like a young schoolgirl I'm finding this quite funny. England have a player called Willey, but that doesn't seem quite so amusing.

I would not be able to contain my giggles. Not a huge cricket fan I’ll say. Prefer baseball even though mu Royals are terrible and had ten guys unvaccinated. Embarrassing. They say they don’t want to put something in their bodies that will impact their performance. Well I wouldnt worry too much about that guys. You’ll suck either way.

Hehe, the possibilities for humour are boundless there, Lily! Especially if one caught the other out, or was bowling against them...

Soccer is easier to understand than cricket for french. No, I can’t say it, cricket is absolutely not understandable for french, it is really too british. someone tried to explain me but my mind isn’t wired for this type of game. Robin Williams told that cricket is like baseball but with valium. I’m just happy that french women soccer team is in semi final, in a next life perhaps I will try to understand cricket and doctor who. I love my english girlfriend, sorry for being so french. 😘 Chloé

England is absolutely rolling. I have a hard time seeing them losing at home in the final. But things like that seem to happen to them.

I love my english girlfriend, sorry for being so french. 😘 Chloé Cricket definitely isn't as straightforward as football. It's really only taken hold in countries that were part of the British Empire. If anyone here wanted to get into it I would say start with the shortest format T20, much more exciting than Robin Williams description would lead you to believe. While talking about cricket and Doctor Who, one of the Doctor's outfits in the '80s was based on cricket apparel. I am sure you could suggest some sport or TV program that might be too French for me. Would you to hear some examples. Perhaps one thing that unites English and French culture is loving to beat Germany in sport. Hope your girls can do that tonight. Lily
